One of the most sought after Drummers of this Generation deftly playing any genre (Gospel, Hip Hop, Neo-Soul, Jazz, Funk, Disco, R&B, Pop, Reggae, Latin, Rock, etc.), David "Jody" Hill possessing infinite talent maintains his status in the industry as “a force to be reckoned with!”
A native of Miami, Jody quickly became a child prodigy as one of the youngest drummers in the music industry playing for hit gospel artists such as: Dr. Mattie Moss Clark, The Clark Sisters, The Pace Sisters, Ron Winans, BeBe Winans, and the late James Cleveland, just to name a few.
Jody’`s formal studies began in 1988 when he was awarded a full scholarship to Bethune Cookman College in Daytona Beach, Florida. Jody studied there for 2 years and decided to further pursue his musical career with the Churches of God in Christ’s (C.O.G.I.C) Local, District, State, and National Conventions where many famous gospel artists began their careers, such as: The Winans, Commissioned, Yolanda Adams, Hezekiah Walker, Daryl Cooley. Afterwards Jody toured with the famous R&B artist, (The Clean up Woman)”, Betty Wright, completed 4 successful tours with the disco king himself - KC and the Sunshine Band, and became one of the most requested drummers to play and tour with Gloria Gaynor, Martha Wash, The Village People, The Trammps, Sister Sledge,Anita Ward, and Reggae hit makers such as Mickey Spice, Leroy Sibbles, Inner Circle and Kymani Marley (the son of the world renowned Bob Marley) which opened many additional opportunities.
Jody then earned himself 3 Grammy nominations with Joss Stone for the album "Mind, Body & Soul" where his God-given talent landed him even more gigs and exceptional opportunities.
His television appearances include: The Craig Kilborn Show, PBS Disco Special, The Today Show, Ellen DeGeneres show, local stations: Channels 4, 6, 7, 10, and 33.
In the summer of 1997, Jody entered the South Florida first ever Guitar Center Drum Off and quickly found himself in Los Angeles at the finals being judged by world famous drummers such as: Jason Boham, Sheila E., and Terry Bozzio.
Jody is the C.E.O. and founder of his band called Deep Fried Funk Band which is organized with the concept of performing for local, national, and international artists. This concept came to fruition and landed them performances with Malcolm-Jamal Warner, Jaguar Wright (known for Jay Z’s hit song "A Song Cry"), Kindred Family Soul, Dwele, Peter Harder, Gloria Gaynor, RL, Bobby Valentino, Young Lloyd, Roscoe Dash, Flo-Rida, Rick Ross, Tank, Git Fresh, Trick Daddy, Big Brooklyn Red, D.Woods, Anthony David, and Eric Roberson with Jody commissioned to be the Music Director.
